Week 8 Blog
This week in our journalism class felt like a nice relaxing breath after finishing out our second unit assignment, which was the video report. For me, the video report felt like a lot of work, editing, and reviewing. On top of that, I wasn’t really used to the adobe video editing process as I am not the most tech savvy. However, I felt very happy and accomplished to knock another unit assignment out of the way. I feel like we are all accomplishing a lot this semester, and are all working very hard. After having a unit assignment due in such a short period, this week’s work load felt much more doable and easier to manage. I really enjoyed reading everyone’s podcast ideas and suggestions, and spent some time brainstorming my own ideas for a podcast. I think that this will be the most fun assignment thus far in this class. I also think that everyone’s ideas for the podcast are very unique, and that this assignment will allow a lot of room for creativity. I am really excited about two of my own podcast ideas in particular. The first podcast idea I am excited about potentially using is my art podcast. In this podcast I would interview different artists in my community, many of which are close friends of mine, and discuss their medium of art, their inspiration behind their art, the purpose that art serves in their life, and where they want to go in life with their art. I have a lot of friends who are artists, from painters, to singers, to guitarists, pianists, and more. I feel very grateful to be surrounded by so many creatives who are so passionate about their craft. I also am going to include some of my own input on my own creative process and what art means to me, as I am an artist of many mediums myself. I love to draw, paint, and play the flute. I also have played the viola, trumpet, and saxophone earlier in my life, and see art as a creative outlet for every emotion.
I am definitely excited to see what everyone will be able to produce in their own podcasts. A lot of my friends are super into podcasts, ranging from true crime podcasts to environmental sustainability and holistic healing. I personally do not listen to a ton of podcasts, but I have recently come across a really interesting podcast called “The Lonely Palette”. “The Lonely Palette” is a really cool podcast about fine art, abstract art, and museum viewing at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In this podcast, different artists are featured. All kinds of people are interviewed and recorded, taking their time to gaze upon the art and give their own individual interpretations of the art pieces. The podcast features very well known pieces such as Grant Wood’s “American Gothic” as well as other more underground pieces, like Patty Chang’s “Melons (At A Loss). I think it is really interesting to hear how the art affects other people, and what it makes them think of, because everyone’s interpretation of the art is so different. I look forward to listening to more of the podcast, as well as my peers’ upcoming podcasts!
