Final Blog Post

I can’t believe that this will be my last blog post for this class! This semester has honestly felt pretty long and heavy with course work, so I feel very relieved that it is now coming to an end. This semester has been packed with many readings, assignments, projects, reports, and papers. I definitely feel like I have learned so much this past semester and have gained a lot more essential knowledge that I will definitely be using going forward in the future throughout school. This class was definitely a writing intensive course, and I feel like I have done the most writing in this class than all of my other courses this semester. I also feel like my writing skills have greatly improved by taking this course, due to the amount of assignments that we had and how all of the assignments were writing assignments or incorporated writing. Not only did this class improve my writing skills, I think that it also improved my social skills and networking skills due to the structure and requ...

Week 14 Blog Post

Image
We are now in the 14th week of the semester and are nearing the end of our course, wrapping up with projects and research. This week in our journalism class felt a lot less heavy on the work side since we got to use most of our time for this class spent on working on our op/ed unit project. Aside from our unit project, we also had our news analysis assignment, where we got to choose any op/ed writing piece that we wanted to use for this week. The op/ed piece I chose was called “Minimum Wage Should Not Be Living Wage”. This journal discussed how low the minimum wage is in Hawaii and why the wage is set this low. I chose to use this article for the news analysis assignment because it is similar to the topic that I chose to discuss in my op/ed unit assignment. I chose to write about how there is no law in place that designates a break time on a work shift, causing many workers to go entire shifts without any sort of break. These topics are very related because they both talk about u...

Week 13 Blog Post

This week in school is very exciting as we are nearing the end of the semester. This year has been quite rigorous for me considering the course load that I have taken on, and I am excited to be able to wrap things up and get some rest in this summer before the next school year begins in the Fall of 2022. Everyone has been putting in a lot of work and effort to do their best, and I hope that we can all finish out strong. This week in our journalism class, we began brainstorming for our second to the last unit assignment of the semester. This assignment is going to be an op/ed piece written by us. It was interesting to see everyone’s different ideas in our forum post. It was also cool to see some overlapping ideas or ideas that connected to each other. I know that I personally had some overlapping ideas with other students and I thought that it was neat to see us on the same brainwave and be concerned about similar topics. I think that everyone is going to be able to produce someth...

Week 10/Spring Break Blog

Image
This week is spring break, and although we were not required to create a blog posting this week I figured I would play catch up and make an extra posting! Having this current week off in terms of school work was absolutely refreshing and recharging. The extra time from spring break also allowed me extra time to work on my podcast, which I just turned in today. I had so much fun talking with the guest that I spoke with in my podcast, and getting to listen to her music. I had selected a couple of pieces of the artist’s piano songs to use in my podcast, and had a wonderful time listening to all of her samples and choosing my favorite ones. Having the discussion about art with the artist also made me excited to get back in touch with my love for art, which I definitely have been neglecting over the past couple of weeks. The artist that I spoke with wants to create a creative space with interactive art and immersive experiences, which is very similar to the immersive Van Gogh exhibit ...

Week 9 Blog

It’s the last week before spring break, and boy is the semester absolutely flying by. I am definitely grateful for the smaller workload for this current week, as it gives us more time to really think about and prepare our podcasts. I am actually pretty excited about the podcast assignment, and have spent some time thinking about the different angles that I might want to approach this podcast at. The feedback from everyone involved in this course has definitely been incredibly helpful. I have settled on making my podcast centered around art and art history. For my podcast I am going to be interviewing an artist friend of mine, who is very passionate about playing the piano and wants to make a living out of this. I am really excited to hear what she has to say, and to share her words with the class. The artist that I plan to interview is named Tash. Tash is currently going after a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts with a focus on music theory. She has been playing the piano her ent...

Week 8 Blog

This week in our journalism class felt like a nice relaxing breath after finishing out our second unit assignment, which was the video report. For me, the video report felt like a lot of work, editing, and reviewing. On top of that, I wasn’t really used to the adobe video editing process as I am not the most tech savvy. However, I felt very happy and accomplished to knock another unit assignment out of the way. I feel like we are all accomplishing a lot this semester, and are all working very hard. After having a unit assignment due in such a short period, this week’s work load felt much more doable and easier to manage. I really enjoyed reading everyone’s podcast ideas and suggestions, and spent some time brainstorming my own ideas for a podcast. I think that this will be the most fun assignment thus far in this class. I also think that everyone’s ideas for the podcast are very unique, and that this assignment will allow a lot of room for creativity. I am really excited about tw...
